The YAMs Collective
Art Africa Miami
12/4-12/9/18

VIP/Media preview: Tuesday 12/4/18, 11-2pm
Opening Black Party: Wednesday 12/5/18, 8-12am

Art Africa Miami is delighted to kick off festivities at its historic Overtown location with an overview of works by the groundbreaking HowDoYouSayYamInAfrican, or YAMs collective. Renowned for their performance and visual art pieces on film and in live settings, their work explores the tensions of coexisting with the standard of straight/white supremacy. Their works will hang alongside other artistic masters of the African Diaspora at Art Africa, such as Abdoulaye Konate, Solomon Adufah, Phillip Dodard, and George Edozie. This year's roster of artists are continuing and evolving their shared visual and social narrative on the theme “Black Art Matters.”

The VIP/Media Reception will feature an impromptu video presentation of the YAMs work, along with a chance to meet and greet some of the core members. The Black Party will consist of several performances throughout the course of the night, all exploring the collective members’ individual talents in soundscapes, dance and visual expression.

The exhibition at Art Africa Miami  will be on view through 12/9/18, spanning both Art Africa’s headquarters and the 5000 sq foot Lyric Pavillion directly across the street.
